TerraGo Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
TerraGo Real Estate Limited (“TerraGo”, “we”, “us” or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose and protect personal information when you use:
- The TerraGo mobile application;
- The TerraGo website;
- TerraGo customer-support channels;
- Our land-purchase, payment and related services.
TerraGo is the data controller responsible for determining how and why personal information is processed in connection with these services.

2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use TerraGo, we may collect the following categories of information.
2.1 Account and identity information
This may include:
- Your full name;
- Telephone number;
- Email address, where provided;
- Date of birth, where required;
- National Identification Number or other identification information, where required for a land transaction;
- Account credentials, authentication information and security PIN;
- Information used to verify your identity.
We do not store your security PIN in readable form.
2.2 Property and purchase information
This may include:
- Estates and plots you view or select;
- Plot number, size, price and location;
- Site-visit requests;
- Plot reservations or purchase applications;
- Payment plan selected;
- Land sale agreement details;
- Purchase status;
- Instalments paid;
- Outstanding balances;
- Title-processing and transfer information.
2.3 Payment information
When you make or attempt to make a payment, we may receive:
- The telephone number used for payment;
- Payment amount;
- Transaction reference;
- Payment date and status;
- Payment-provider confirmation;
- Reversal or failed-payment information.
TerraGo does not require you to disclose your Mobile Money PIN to us. You should never provide your Mobile Money PIN to a TerraGo employee, agent or customer-support representative.
2.4 Communications
We may collect information you provide when you:
- Contact our customer-support team;
- Submit a complaint or enquiry;
- Request a site visit;
- Communicate with us through telephone, WhatsApp, email, the app or our website;
- Participate in surveys or provide feedback.
2.5 Documents, photographs and other submitted information
Where required for identity verification, contracting or title processing, we may collect documents or images you submit, including:
- Identification documents;
- Passport-style photographs;
- Signed agreements;
- Proof of payment;
- Other documents relevant to your land purchase.
2.6 Technical and usage information
When you use the app, we may automatically collect limited technical information, such as:
- Internet Protocol address;
- Device type and model;
- Operating-system version;
- TerraGo app version;
- Login activity;
- App screens and features used;
- Error reports, crash logs and diagnostic information;
- Security and fraud-prevention information.
2.7 Location information
The app displays the locations of TerraGo estates and plots.
3. How we use your information
We may use personal information to:
- Create, verify and secure your TerraGo account;
- Authenticate you when you log in;
- Display available estates, plots and prices;
- Process plot enquiries, site-visit requests and purchase applications;
- Prepare and administer land-purchase agreements;
- Provide and manage instalment-payment plans;
- Record, reconcile and confirm payments;
- Display your payment history and outstanding balance;
- Monitor the progress of your land purchase;
- Process title and property-transfer documentation;
- Respond to questions, complaints and support requests;
- Send service messages, payment reminders and important account notices;
- Prevent fraud, unauthorised access and misuse;
- Improve the app and diagnose technical problems;
- Maintain business, accounting and transaction records;
- Comply with legal, regulatory, tax and contractual obligations;
- Establish, exercise or defend legal claims;
- Send marketing communications where you have consented or where legally permitted.
4. Grounds for processing your information
Depending on the circumstances, TerraGo processes personal information because:
- You have consented to the processing;
- Processing is necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract;
- Processing is necessary to perform a land sale or related agreement with you;
- Processing is required to comply with a legal obligation;
- Processing is necessary to protect TerraGo, its customers or the public from fraud, security threats or unlawful activity;
- Processing is necessary for legitimate business interests that do not unfairly override your rights.
Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act generally requires consent but also recognises processing required for contracts and legal obligations.
5. How we disclose information
We may disclose personal information to the following categories of recipients where necessary.
5.1 Service providers
These may include providers of:
- Cloud hosting and data storage;
- SMS and account-verification services;
- Mobile Money and payment processing;
- App analytics and crash reporting;
- Customer-support and communication tools;
- Cybersecurity and fraud prevention;
- Accounting, document management and business administration.
These service providers may only process information for agreed purposes and subject to appropriate confidentiality and security obligations.
5.2 Land-transaction service providers
Where necessary to complete or administer a transaction, we may disclose information to:
- Lawyers and advocates;
- Surveyors;
- Valuers;
- Landowners or sellers;
- Financial institutions;
- Government land offices and registries;
- Local authorities;
- Tax and regulatory authorities;
- Other professionals involved in due diligence, subdivision, transfer or registration.
5.3 Legal and regulatory disclosure
We may disclose information where reasonably necessary to:
- Comply with the law, a court order or a lawful regulatory request;
- Investigate fraud or unlawful conduct;
- Protect the safety, rights or property of TerraGo, its customers or another person;
- Enforce an agreement.
5.4 Business restructuring
Information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, restructuring, investment, financing or sale of all or part of TerraGo’s business, subject to applicable confidentiality and data-protection requirements.
TerraGo does not sell personal information for money.
6. International processing
Some technology and service providers may store or process information outside Uganda.
Where personal information is transferred outside Uganda, TerraGo will take reasonable steps to ensure that the information receives appropriate protection and that the transfer is permitted under applicable law.
7. Data retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.
Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information.
For example:
- Account information may be retained while your account remains active;
- Property-purchase and payment information may be retained for the duration of the transaction and afterwards where required for accounting, contractual, tax, fraud-prevention or legal purposes;
- Land sale agreements, payment records, title-processing records and related documentation may be retained even after an app-account deletion request where retention is required to comply with the law or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims;
- Technical and security logs may be retained for a limited period necessary for security, troubleshooting and fraud prevention;
- Marketing information may be retained until you withdraw your consent or unsubscribe.
When information is no longer required, we will delete, anonymise or securely dispose of it.
8. Account deletion
You may request deletion of your TerraGo app account:
- Through our account-deletion page at www.terragoland.com/delete-account.
Deleting your TerraGo app account does not automatically cancel:
- A land reservation;
- A land sale agreement;
- An instalment-payment obligation;
- An outstanding balance;
- A title-transfer process;
- Any other contractual or legal obligation.
Where you have an active land purchase, we may delete your app login and information that is no longer needed while retaining transaction and contractual records that TerraGo must lawfully keep.
9. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:
- Ask whether TerraGo holds personal information about you;
- Request access to your personal information;
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Request deletion of information that is no longer lawfully required;
- Object to certain processing;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- Request information about how your data is being used;
- Submit a complaint concerning the handling of your personal information.

We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
You may also lodge a complaint with Uganda’s Personal Data Protection Office. The PDPO is responsible for enforcing Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act and receiving complaints concerning data-subject rights.
10. Security
We use reasonable organisational, administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect personal information against:
- Unauthorised access;
- Loss;
- Misuse;
- Alteration;
- Disclosure;
- Destruction.
These safeguards may include access controls, staff confidentiality requirements, secure server configurations, authentication controls and encrypted communication.
No electronic system is entirely secure. You are responsible for protecting your phone, PIN and account credentials and for informing TerraGo promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
11. Children
The TerraGo app and land-purchase services are intended for persons aged 18 years and above.
We do not knowingly create land-purchase accounts for children. Where we discover that a child’s personal information was collected without valid authorisation, we will take appropriate steps to delete or restrict that information.
12. Notifications and marketing
We may send messages that are necessary to operate your account, including:
- Payment confirmations;
- Payment reminders;
- Security alerts;
- Changes affecting your plot or agreement;
- Site-visit communications;
- Customer-support responses.
Where required, promotional or marketing communications will be sent with your consent. You may opt out of marketing communications, but you may continue to receive essential service or transaction messages.
13. Third-party services
The TerraGo app may contain links to maps, payment services, communication services or other third-party platforms.
Those third parties may process information under their own terms and privacy policies. TerraGo is not responsible for third-party services that it does not control.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in:
- The TerraGo app;
- Our services;
- Technology;
- Legal or regulatory requirements;
- Our data-handling practices.
The updated policy will show a revised effective date. Where changes are significant, we may also notify you through the app, website, SMS or another appropriate channel.
